This page explains what personal information Ruschin & Co collects, why, and what South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) gives you the right to do about it.
What we collect
When you book a consultation, enquire about a piece, or buy from the shop, we collect your name, phone number, email address, and, for a delivered order, your delivery address. We also keep a record of the order or booking itself. We do not collect payment card details ourselves: our payment provider, Peach Payments, or PayFast where that gateway is used, handles those directly on its own hosted payment page.
Like most websites, we also use analytics tools (Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics) to see which pages are visited and how the site performs. These record browsing behaviour, not your name, email, phone number or address.
Why we use it
To respond to your enquiry or booking, to process and deliver an order, to keep the accounting and tax records the law requires of us, and to understand and improve the site. We do not sell your information to anyone.
Who we share it with
Our payment provider, Peach Payments, or PayFast where that gateway is used, to process a payment; a courier company, to deliver an order you have asked to be delivered; and our own accounting records, kept for tax purposes. We do not share your details with anyone else for their own marketing.
Where your information is stored
Some of the providers we rely on to run this site, such as our hosting provider and our email provider, may store or process your information outside South Africa. Where that happens, section 72 of POPIA requires that transfer to be protected to a similar standard to POPIA itself, typically through a data processing agreement, an adequacy finding, or the provider's own binding rules or certifications.
The specific providers this applies to, and which safeguard each one relies on, are not yet listed here. Confirmed with Gavin before launch.
How long we keep it
To confirm
The exact retention period we keep customer and order records for is not yet decided. Confirmed with Gavin before launch. As a general rule we keep what South African tax and consumer law requires, and no longer than that for anything else.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it, and object to how we use it. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Information officer
To confirm
POPIA requires us to name the person responsible for privacy compliance at Ruschin & Co, and register them with the Information Regulator. That name is not yet decided. Confirmed with Gavin before launch. In the meantime, direct any privacy question to info@ruschin.co.za.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your information secure, and we work with reputable providers, such as our payment gateway and hosting provider, who do the same.
Changes to this page
We may update this page as our practices change. The version published here is always the current one.
